World Mental Health Day

Today is World Mental Health Day, and it serves as a reminder to all that our mental well-being is just as important as our physical health. It was established back in 1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health, and has grown to raise awareness about mental health issues and take action to create real change. Personally, I think we still have a long way to go with normalizing/accepting mental illness and those suffering from mental illnesses, but I have to acknowledge that we have made strides. As we continue to work on ending the stigma, I hope we also fight for and demand that access to mental health care becomes more accessible to all.

As a professional organizer reflecting on mental health always brings me back to how our environment impacts our mental state so much. I’ve always been super open about my own struggles with anxiety, especially when it came to clutter so today is no different. It’s pretty amazing how a clutter-free and organized space can make you feel better if you're an anxious person. But I understand that many of us also face challenges like depression that make us feel stuck and unable to address the chaos. And if you throw ADHD into the mix, it can feel even more overwhelming. When I tell you I get it, I get it. I know how hard it can be to tackle tasks that seem simple for others. That’s why I’m so passionate about what I do.

Helping you create a peaceful home isn’t just about tidying up for me. It’s about healing and finding freedom in your space and from your space. When we declutter together, we’re not just organizing, we’re creating an environment that supports a clearer mindset and a healthier you.

This World Mental Health Day, I’m recommitting to helping my clients prioritize their space, but most importantly their mental well-being. I want to help you create spaces that bring calm and relief and peace and clarity etc...

I want to leave you with a couple of tips to get started on prioritizing self-care and mental well-being. Yes, I know, decluttering and organizing don't sound like self-care much to some of you, but trust me you'll feel better.

  • Find a quiet spot in your home where you can take a breather. Add some cozy blankets, a comfy chair, and maybe a few plants (unless you've got a brown thumb like me). Commit to making this your place to unwind and pause whenever you need a moment. And keep it tidy!

  • Pick just one area to declutter, like a drawer or a small shelf. You don’t have to tackle anything else. Just focus on one little spot and watch how it creates a sense of accomplishment and clears your mind a bit. Today, I organized my husband's sock drawer and it helped me feel better. I think it's something about knowing you completed a task.

Let’s commit to taking care of ourselves and each other not just on World Mental Health Day, but every day.
